KIMONO DRESSING EXPERIENCE & TEA CEREMONY
CULTURAL ACTIVITYKimono DressingTea Ceremony
Visit an authentic japanese house to experience two of the most basicl elements of japanese culture, the world famous Tea Ceremony, and the even more fundamental art of putting on and wearing a kimono.
Enjoy two of Japan's best-known cultural experiences under expert guidance in a perfectly fitting environment. As with so much of Japan's culture, the enjoyment of the experience itself is multiplied as one gains an understanding of the meaning behind each small element that constitutes the whole.
The culture of kimono-wearing is one of the most charming and yet mysterious elements of japanese life for the outsider.
Here is a chance to experience wearing a kimono, with an introduction to the ‘dos and don’ts’ of kimono-wearing, followed by the actual process of dressing, under the supervision of an expert, and then a chance to take a stroll & a souvenir snapshot or ten.
There is a perception outside Japan that kimonos are only for ladies, but that is not the case, with the word originally meaning ‘something you wear’ and covering the clothing of men, women and children. Men may find Samurai ‘hakama’ trousers more comfortable, but either way, there are great traditional outfits for guests of both sexes and all ages
An authentic tea ceremony evokes the image of extreme attention to detail - a Tea House, or japanese room, with a hanging scroll, (most likely depicting the message ‘ichigo ichie’, as right) delicately arranged seasonal flowers, and carefully prepared utensils. However, in the words of one famous Tea Master, ‘You can call any gathering a tea ceremony as long as there are guests and matcha. In the Tea Ceremony, we express our feelings of gratitude in silence. Action speaks louder than words’.
This is a unique opportunity to experience japanese culture as handed down directly from its origins, & to get an insight of the true & traditional values of Japan.
